Launch U Resources

We are excited by the interest in Launch U, the new early college program focused on skilled trades, which will begin during the 2017/18 school year, by education partners.  You’ve asked for a few resources so you can feel more informed when speaking with student and parent/guardians.  We’ve heard your call and wanted to share a few things:

  • Counselor’s CornerWe’ve created a Counselor section on the webpage. It is located on the left-hand side of the page.  We are hopeful that placing useful information here will make your job easier.
  • Educator FAQ’s – We’ve collected the questions you’ve been asking and placed them into a FAQ document. We’ll update this document as needed.
  • Counselor Chat – We’d love to provide a space where Counselors can ask questions about Launch U. We know that you are in the midst of scheduling and we want to honor your processes.  On Wednesday, March 21st at 1:00 PM we will be hosting an online chat.  Please sign up indicating your interest and we’ll let you know the login details.
  • Student/Parent Information Session – We hope to announce additional student/parent events soon. We have a few employer partners checking on facility/staff availability.  As soon as this are solidified, we’ll get the details to you ASAP.

Free education and interviews – what?

The Construction Workforce Development Alliance (CWDA) is offering full-tuition scholarships for the 2017 Construction Core Jump Start Program. In its fourth year, the 2017 Jump Start Program is an intensive 17-day training program open to students aged 18 – 24.

The Jump Start program is based on the ABC Western Michigan Construction Core program which teaches basic construction skills including construction math, hand/power tools, and basic blueprint reading. Graduates earn a 10-hour OSHA card, rough-terrain forklift license, First Aid/CPR card, and lead and asbestos awareness.

At the conclusion of the training program students are offered a minimum of two job interviews with CWDA association member companies who are eager to hire entry-level professionals.

The Jump Start program positions students who complete the training  with the basic skills necessary to work in the construction industry.
